Gorgeous bubbles, like strings of fine pearls, fizz through the salmon-coloured wine, releasing generous notes of wild cherries, figs, ginger and geranium. Very fruity, with a juicy, crisp finish.

Savour on its own or alongside canapés, grilled lobster or pigeon.

Duval-Leroy's pink Champagne is made from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Unusually for the wine world, rosé Champagne can be made by blending red juice with white, something that is illegal in the rest of Europe. 

Founded in 1859, Duval-Leroy is today run by Belgian Carol Duval-Leroy, who took control of the estate after her husband Jean Charles died suddenly in 1991. As well as presiding over a long period of growth and success, she has also left her mark on the wider champagne world, becoming in 2007 the first woman ever to be nominated chairman of the AVC, Champagne's winemakers' association. Carol's four sons work alongside her.
