Delicious aperitif or partner for oysters, smoked salmon or grilled lemon sole.
Duval-Leroy was founded in 1859 through the merger of two Champagne growers and is today run by Belgian Carol Duval-Leroy, who took control after her husband passed away in 1991. The house's 200 hectares are mostly in the Côte des Blancs and a team of 30 specialists tend the vineyards all year round, bolstered by 500 pickers at harvest time.
True ‘Champagne’ must come from the Champagne region in northern France, not far from Paris; producers elsewhere who attempt to use the term quickly become intimate with Champagne's infamous lawyers. The production process for Champagne is similar to that for still wines, but with a crucial extra step: yeast and grape sugar are added to the bottled new wine, provoking a secondary fermentation that gives the all-important bubbles!

Tom Stevenson

"Over the last 10 years, the quality of Duval-Leroy has soared and for a few years now it has been possible to claim that no other house can beat it for consistency of style - not even the greatest of the great."
