Bold, smoky red with layers of blueberry, spicebox and crème de cassis flavours. The mouthfeel is glossy, with silky-smooth tannins that fairly glide across the palate. Complex and lush, with flashes of boysenberry, liquorice and mocha.

Pair with Beef cheek with celeriac mash.

Heritage is a blend of 76% Zinfandel, 21% Petite Sirah, 2% Primitivo and 1% Carignane from Sonoma County in California. The fermentation is in stainless steel for 18 days, with regular 'pumping over' to extract colour, flavour and tannin. The wine is aged for 15 months in a combination of new and used French, American and Hungarian oak. It is made in a dry - but rich - style. The soils are clay-loam and the vineyards are cropped at between 3 and 6 tons per acre. The vines are at least 20 years old.

Heritage Vines Zinfandel comes from an experimental project initiated in 1982 to preserve the tradition and 'heritage' of old Zinfandel vineyards. Cuttings from a pre-Prohibition era vineyard were provided for grafting onto phylloxera-resistant rootstock. Sonoma County is a large and important wine region in northern California, on the oceanic side of the world-famous Napa Valley. Cabernet is huge in Sonoma (as elsewhere in California) but Zinfandel is confined to the region's warmer terroirs.
