Cuvee Jean-Paul Sec 2013

South West France, France

Bright and vivacious white with lifted aromas of grapefruit, herbs and pineapple. Light-bodied, zingy and full-flavoured palate of more citrus and tropical fruits, balanced by invigorating, lemony acidity. The whistle-clean finish is dry and appetising.

Great aperitif, party quaffer, or partner for fish 'n' chips.

Côtes de Gascogne is in the Armagnac region of SW France. Production is mostly dry-white. Ugni Blanc (one of the grapes used to make brandy) is the same as Italy's Trebbiano. Colombard (used for brandy too) is grown in California and South Africa, as well as Gascogny.

Liam Campbell, Irish Independent 'Weekend' magazine (April 2013): "Pink lilies and pink grapefruit scents. Delicious mouth-watering pink grapefruit and baked lemon pie flavours. For a girls’ night in, create a cocktail with a drizzle of Grenadine or Crème de Cassis."

Blake Creedon, Irish Examiner (May, 2009): "One of the best value whites at the moment, the grapefruity mouth watering Jean-Paul Sec [...] My best white of the tasting.”

Curious Review

Mike

Very pale, lemon tinged, clear - like a Sauvignon.

Really aromatic nose - citrus, touch of sweet fruit, possibly pineapple, fresh and vibrant.

Clean, crisp and zesty lime and grapefruit to fore. Quite high in acidity so nice bite to it, great food partner for lighter flavoured dishes.

Great wine for the money.

Mike, Jan 2010 (2008 vintage)
