Bordeaux, France

Fleshy, confident claret with a dark black colour and fetching scents of cassis, cigar box and leather. The wash is powerful and strong, with grippy tannins and flavours of tapenade, toast and espresso. Impressive!

Pair with roast beef or lamb.

The Cazade family, who have been growing wine for three generations now, farms 20 hectares of vines (average age a very good 20 years) in Bordeaux, south-west France. The blend here is 55% Merlot, 25% Malbec and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Fully organic wines (which are labelled 'Vin Biologique' or 'BIO' in France) like this tasty claret are uncommon (just 5% of wines are certified organic) as, even where wineries opt to farm organically for quality reasons, they often don't bother with the cost and hassle of certification. They may also want to keep their options open in the event of a dire growing season, where non-organic treatments might be required to save that year's crop - and income!
