Delicious, opulent claret, with textbook Merlot notes of spiced, overripe plum, sage and star anise, abetted by sweet, fine tannins and a very long finish! A wine to make you love life!
Try with Chinese-style crispy duck pancakes or honey and soy sticky ribs.
The final blend here is 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Barrel maturation includes a third of the blend in luxurious new French wood.
Located on the fringes of the village of Lalande de Pomerol, Ch. Perron dates back to 1647 and is one of the oldest properties in the region. It belonged to the Massonie family for three generations and was, until the late 1990s, run by, the well-known and well respected, Michel Massonie, who not only founded the wine brotherhood of Lalande de Pomerol and was its first Bailli but who is also the current President of the Grand Conseil des Vins de Bordeaux.
Lalande-de-Pomerol is a red wine subregion of Bordeaux. The wines are made mostly from Merlot, but can also include Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon and Malbec. The stellar success of big-name Pomerol has spurred much new investment in Lalande-de-Pomerol in recent years, and the results can be seen in the super wines - which are invariably less expensive than those from Pomerol itself.
