Château Maucoil Organic Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages BLANC 2016

Rhône, France

Fetching golden-blonde hue with an exotic, curvaceous feel and fresh, powerful notes of honeyed grapes, apple, lime tree and apricot. Fleshy and succulent, with a dry finish.

Great with creamy cheeses or rich fish dishes like cod in beer batter with homemade onion rings

White Côtes-du-Rhône/Villages can include many different varieties but just two - Grenache Blanc and Clairette - are used here, in an even split. Harvesting is by hand in the cool of early morning - better for the grapes, which won't get baked on their bittersweet first and last trip to the winery - and the vinification is in stainless steel.

Château Maucoil has a long history stretching back to Roman times, when the property was used as an army fortress. Its most-recent incarnation began in 2013, when Château Maucoil was acquired by Lavau, a local family wine negociant. The estate spans 37 hectares, most of which is employed to grow a wide range of traditional grapes for Châteauneuf du Pape. In 2014, Château Maucoil became certified biodynamic.
