Saint-Émilion Grand Cru wines are made under slightly tighter production restrictions than regular Saint-Émilion wines, relating mostly to length of ageing and the linked factors of vineyard yield, grape ripeness and minimum alcohol level.

Situated in the village of Saint Pey d'Armens, Château Destrier has belonged to the Cheminade family for four generations. This remarkable vineyard, planted exclusively with Merlot, is run with passion and precision by Oliver Cheminade

As well as being good looking, magnums (equal to 1,500ml, or two normal-sized bottles) are better for the wine itself, as the ratio of air in the headspace (the bit between the base of the cork and the surface of the wine) to wine is lower than that found in regular 750ml bottles; the result is that the liquid is less exposed to destructive oxygen, and so matures more slowly, evenly and gracefully.
