Generous, lush feel with big, round flavours of black olive, mulberry and tarragon, and touches of dark chocolate and grilled meat, wrapped up neatly in firm, fine tannins. Nice long finish.
Try with lamb cutlets with balsamic and pink peppercorn dressing.
This small, family estate is situated in Néac, in Bordeaux's Lalande de Pomerol appellation. The Merlot-based wine (80% Merlot, plus 20% Cab Franc) is vinified by the Simon  family. Crop thinning and leaf culling are assiduously carried out in the vineyard to maximise berry ripeness, and harvesting is by hand only. The final cuvée is the result of selection and blending of the top vats after 12 months' ageing in French oak barrels, a third new.
Lalande-de-Pomerol is a red wine AOP of the Bordeaux region in SW France. The wines are made predominantly from Merlot, but can also include Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The brilliant success of Pomerol has spurred much new investment in Lalande-de-Pomerol in recent times, and the results can be seen in the wines, which remain much cheaper and better value than those of Pomerol itself.
