Languedoc & SW France, France

Winning Midi bouquet of baked black fruit and warm garrigue herbs - lavender, rosemary, thyme - that leads on to a full palate of glossy black fruits, leather and spicy peppercorn. Honest, unaffected style - a proper taste of the south!
Great with all manner of cheeses  and meat pies - beef and mushroom? Yum!
Minervois is an appellation - or wine region - in France's western Languedoc. The name comes from the village of Minerve, itself named after the Greek goddess Minerva. Regulations stipulate that red Minervois must be at least 60% Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre (GSM) combined, possibly supported (or stretched!) with Carignan and Cinsaut.
Château Festiano is situated in the commune of Tourouzelle, on the clay-limestone slopes of the Minervois region, in the heart of the massive Languedoc region. The estate's name comes from the wooden beams which come from the nearby forest of green oaks. Château Festiano has been in the Ramel-Mazard family since 1562.
