Open and warm, with an charming nose of mulberry and mint, and a medium-bodied wash of baked plums, woodsmoke and graphite. Brisk tannins and a firm, impressive finish.

Try with butter-and-honey-basted rib-eye steaks - delicious!

Château Cantillac has been owned by the Fernandez family since 1956. The estate is actually located in the white wine subregion of Entre-Deux-Mers, but regulations say that any red wine made here must trade under the generic Bordeaux appellation. Who cares about that, though - the wine (100% Merlot) is lovely!

Bordeaux is the world's most-important fine wine region but it is quantitatively key too, producing as much wine each year as all of Australia. All styles are made, with Merlot being the most-planted variety.
