Château Beaumont Haut-Médoc 2015

Bordeaux, France

From an excellent Bordeaux vintage, the 2015 has great intensity, very deep colour with garnet reflections. The nose is very open and inviting with soft oaky notes of vanilla and spice complementing the dominant blackcurrant and black cherry. The palate is smooth and fresh, with great quality tannic development and a supple, luxurious mouthfeel.
Final blend 2015 vintage: Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (47%), Petit Verdot (3%).
At 114 hectares Beaumont is quite a large property, and this of course brings economies of scale that allow the wine to be sold at a competitive price, relative to its impeccable quality. Soils are well drained, deep and gravelly, and winemaker Etienne Priou typically opts for a blend of around 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, with a soupçon of Cabernet Franc and, in warmer years, Petit Verdot. Ageing is for just over a year, in new French oak, of which one-third is new.
