Castelo do Papa Godello 2015

Valdeorras, Spain

Buy Now:

Supremely elegant Godello with a delicate, floral perfume and a full bodied, round palate that is minerally and fine, with pitch-perfect notes of lemon pith, pear, ginger and melon. Pure, cool and gorgeous!

Would be stunning alongside swordfish steaks in garlic sauce with chunky chips.

Castelo do Papa is made wholly from native Galician grape Godello (Verdelho), grown at 500m altitude on slate soils. After fermentation, it rests on its lees for 2 months, to increase the wine's weight and complexity. Like most Godellos, it is unoaked.

Valdeorras, the 'Gateway to Galicia', is a rainy, mostly-white-wine region (DO) in NW Spain. The River Sil is the main feature of the terrain, with vineyards planted on its valley floor. Although the majority of DO Valdeorras wine is varietal, unoaked white made from Godello, other styles exist too: blended whites, oaked whites, reds (from Mencía), sparkling and sweet.

Alcohol: 13%
Style: Round, minerally, fine
Closure: Cork
Drink by: 2019

"Quite satiny on the palate...dry style yet quite complex."

Jancis Robinson, MW

"Godello combines the structure of white burgundy with the finesse of a juicily mineral grape".
