Now this is lovely! Graceful, light-straw colour with a very pure, cool palate that impresses with tingly freshness, lean body and healing notes of honeydew melon, green apple and summery fresh hay. Finishes whistle-clean and dry.
Super aperitif or accompaniment to pasta in truffle butter with parmesan.
Gavi is a Piemontese wine region that's actually more Ligurian in personality, being white and seafood friendly, and not red like most of Piemonte's other wines (Barolo etc). Thirteen communes in the province of Alessandria are allowed to make Gavi, and those superior products from the town of Gavi itself can be called Gavi di Gavi. The wines are 100% Cortese and are characteristically dry, fresh and best drunk young.
Cortese has long been considered Piedmont's best white grape and it is often credited as having introduced the world to Italian white wine. Its thin skins and sweet juice mean that, in addition to its role in the fine wines of Gavi, Cortese is much used locally for table (eating) grapes.
