Classic roses and tar nose whose nuances evolve with exposure to the air. The powerful wash is intensely flavoured, with handsome notes of leather, cigar box, violet and prune to the fore. Grippy tannins and fine acidity bring structure. Sublime effort!

Decant for a couple of hours and enjoy with good cheese or red meat.

Producer Bosio is situated in the heart of the Langhe (Piedmont), in pretty hills mentioned in the works of famous Italian poet Cesare Pavese. Established in 1967 by Egidio and Angela, Bosio is today run by Valter Bosio, his wife Rosella and oenologist son Luca.

Barolo, arguably Italy's most profound wine, was awarded top DOCG status in 1980. The classic style sees a pale colour, high acidity, firm tannins and robust alcohol. The wines must be aged for an extended period (up to 62 months for Riservas) before release, and can develop in bottle for many years after. It is always made with 100% Nebbiolo. The wines are sometime unofficially categorised as either "traditional" (as above) or "modern" - softer, oakier, more approachable in youth. This Barolo is proudly made in the traditional style.
