Poised, delicate white with light body, seaspray freshness and brisk flavours of almonds, apple, sunflower seeds, bread crust and chamomile. Finishes dry and pure with a mouthwatering saline tang - classic Manzanilla!
Tasty aperitif or partner for tapas, chorizo, mackerel, anchovies or sushi.
Made from 100% Palomino juice aged for 5-6 years in the classic Sherry solera system. Very dry, with a negligible 1g of residual sugar per litre.
Located on the left bank of the Guadalquivir estuary, Sanlucar de Barrameda, where Manzanilla is born, is the northernmost point of the famous 'Sherry Triangle.' The town's muggy, maritime air creates an ideal environment for the development and year-round maintenance of flor yeasts – the secret behind Manzanilla's unique taste.
The Manzanilla Denominación de Origen (appellation) covers the same geographical area as the Sherry appellation and the two areas, although technically distinct, are governed by the same Consejo Regulador de Jerez wine authority. What separates Manzanilla from the very similar Fino Sherry is the all-important barrel maturation stage, which for Manzanilla must take place in Sanlucar.
Sanlucar, on Spain's small Atlantic coast, is no longer the important port it once was. These days the local economy relies mostly on tourism and winegrowing. The town is best known for its beach-based horse races, flamenco music and (naturally) Manzanilla, for which it has a five-day festival in early summer.
