Babich "Black Label" Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Marlborough, New Zealand

Feisty, zippy personality with classic Kiwi intensity and drive. Lots of peppy, juicy flavours of lime juice, passion fruit, jalapeño, grass and dill. Super refreshing and clean!

Try with sweet potato, bacon, and goat's cheese pasta with basil.

Post-harvest the grapes were crushed and pressed into stainless steel, where most of the juice was fermented at a range of  temperatures to capture the intense varietal flavours that are so characteristic of Marlborough Sauvignon. A small portion of juice was fermented in old oak barriques, to add weight and complexity to the wine. After extensive tasting trials by the winemakers, the wine was blended, finished and bottled.

Josip Babich, then aged 14, made the journey from Croatia to New Zealand in 1910 to join his brothers near Auckland and, at just 20 years old, was bottling his first wine under the Babich Brothers label. The family tradition continues to this day with siblings Peter and Joe Babich at the helm, and Peter’s son David as general manager.
