Languedoc & SW France, France

Gorgeous aromas - Morello cherries, milk chocolate - leap from the glass, while in the mouth the wine is fleshy, with sweet tannins and rich notes of fruitcake and plum jam.
Enjoy with sticky pork noodles - or just on its own!
The colourful Appétit de France range is immediately memorable, each label depicting an animal that makes a brilliant food match for the wine in question - beef for Cabernet, lobster for Sauvignon, salmon for Chardonnay and (here) pork for Merlot.
Producer Val d’Orbieu, based in Narbonne, was founded 40 years ago and has grown since to become one of France’s most pioneering wine groups, specialising in keenly priced, palate friendly, good-looking wines from across the Languedocs's warm plains - although the Appétit wines carry the broader Vin de France title.
