Natural Born Winner Iniesta
BEING LIVERPOOL FANS we haven’t had much to be joyful about recently but we were chuffed to bits last Saturday as friends of Curious, familia Iniesta, celebrated an incredible eighth Spanish league medal for their boy Andrés, captain of all-conquering Barcelona.
Bodegas Iniesta is no trite celebrity endorsement, the family winery was established in the 1990s by Andrés’ dad José Antonio Iniesta. Situated in the good-value Manchuela appellation, originally part of the extensive La Mancha DO before growers successfully lobbied for their own appellation, the family specialise in a range of premium red blends.
‘116 Minuto’ is the unapologetic celebration of Andrés 116th-minute winning goal in the 2010 World Cup Final against the Netherlands, the first ever World Cup win for Spain and, we’re guessing, a pretty big moment in the Iniesta household. An ultra-smooth blend of Tempranillo, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Graciano, the wine possesses a velvety, caressing texture and generous, mouth-coating flavours of red cherry, jammy raspberry, smoke and walnut.
As smooth and silky in the glass as the man himself on the grass, 116 is open for tasting this weekend in Cork and Naas – score!
