Wine: Bleasdale Powder Monkey Shiraz 2014

James Halliday

Australian Wine Companion 2017

Open-fermented, 15% whole berries, short cold soak, 9-12 days on skins, matured for 12 months in French oak (27% new), two gold medals. Deep crimson-purple; resplendent in its generosity with plum and blackberry leading the juicy fruits, licorice, spice and soft tannins all singing the same song. 95 points.

Wine: Bozeto de Exopto Rioja 2016

Luis Gutiérrez

The Wine Advocate

The fresh and fruit-driven 2016 Bozeto de Exopto is a blend of 50% Garnacha, 40% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano, to provide acidity and freshness. The different grapes were aged separately for seven months, the Garnacha in concrete, some Tempranillo in oak vats and the remaining Tempranillo and Graciano in well-seasoned, neutral barriques. It's a fruit-driven, slightly grapey red, and this cuvée, with its high percentage of juicy, round and ripe Garnacha, has more of a Mediterranean character. Precise and clean. 90 points.

Sommelier Challenge Platinum Award Review

I love a location-identifiable wine, and this Cabernet Sauvignon has Coonawarra written all over it. Blackberry, cassis, menthol, oak spice and a fair price, and you've got a way to show your wine friends what sense of place is all about. 94 points.

Wine: Schild Estate Pramie Shiraz 2013

James Halliday

Australian Wine Companion 2017

From the Liebich (80%) and Angus Brae (20%) vineyards; matured in new and used French hogsheads. A very classy, high quality wine that manages to display its power and complexity with a fresh but compelling touch; navigating the many black and blue fruit flavours in relatively easy and very pleasurable. 96 points. To 2038.

James Halliday

Australian Wine Companion 2017

This is right in the heart of medium-bodied shiraz, black cherry, plum and blackberry fruits encased in a silken web of tannins, and a fleeting glimpse of French oak. Yes, it's $20. 96 points. To 2030.
