Our top selling red of the last 12 months revealed!

THIS WAS MATT’S first find in the early days of Curious Wines, spotting a review in Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate for a new garigiste (literally: garage winemaker) in Rioja. The 2010 Bozeto de Exopto received a rave review and 90 points from Jay Miller. Contact was swiftly made with winemaker Tom Puyaubert and a few months later we landed the first pallet of Exopto into our old Kinsale Road store, pumped with the novelty and excitement of a pair of kids at Christmas.

Eight vintages on, one of our all-time favourite reds has become yours, with Bozeto outselling every other red in the last 12 months*. Further, it’s still picking up critical praise, with the 2016 receiving more adoration from Parker & co. last year and, only this week, James Suckling slapping another 90 points on the new 2017 vintage.

Yes we’ve an unapologetic soft spot for this wine – it makes it all the sweeter that you do too.

The stuff of legend: NEW Viña von Siebenthal

THE FIRST TIME I came upon Parcela #7 was in 2009, when I was given a bottle by the then importer. We were only about six months in business at the time but it was the best Chilean wine I’d ever tasted. In one bottle my entire perspective on Chile and its potential for top class wines changed. Mauro …

Australia’s Winemaker of the Year 2018: Paul Hotker, Bleasdale

THE FIRST BOTTLES of Bleasdale Wines in Ireland landed into our small (and constantly freezing cold!) warehouse in Bandon in late 2009. We were just over a year old and planning our first direct shipments from Australia the following Spring. This historic, fifth generation family winery was a coup for two guys still getting their wine business off the …

Douro’s Quinta do Judeu: The Wise and Ancient Valley

Douro’s Quinta do Judeu: The Wise and Ancient Valley There is a story which has weaved its way, like old gnarled vine itself, into the history of the Alves de Carvalho family’s spectacular Douro valley winery, Quinta Do Judeu. It centres around the Judeo-Roman statue from which the winery takes its name, an imposing figure who stands watchful, …

Taming the wild beast: In search of the gorú in his Jumilla spiritual home LAST WEEK during a trip to Cartagena I decided to make, along with my small daughters Este (3) and Tilly (1), the 150km pilgrimage across Murcia to the wine region of Jumilla, to visit one of our most popular suppliers Ego Bodegas. …

Gassac 2015 Red / 2016 White Pre-Sale Offer Ends Sunday 5th March!

THE 2015 HARVEST was the last year seen by Gassac patriarch and Languedoc fine wine pioneer Aimé Guibert, who died last summer aged 91. Fittingly, the gods smiled on the vintage – which was unbelievable – and nearly all the wine sold out within a month, before it had even been bottled. Decanter reported at …
