‘O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stain’d with the blood of the grape…’ (William Blake)

It’s to one of our favourite countries we turn this month to give you an autumn laden with Australia’s finest fruit. From south of Perth to north of Sydney, and barring only a few rare delicacies*, we’ve 20% off every bottle from the land Down Under in September and October!

We’ve wines from Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek, Eden Valley, Western Australia, Victoria, Hunter Valley and the best value around from South Eastern Australia. So, as the nights draw in, there’s no better time to stock up on the best of Oz.

On to Chile, one of most popular wedding wine ranges, the organic Sierra Grande, is only €6.99 a bottle when you buy 2 or more, or €83.88 a case delivered. We’ve a Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and the ever popular Sauvignon Blanc if you want to mix up a case yourself.

And, we’re back to South Africa to tempt you into discovering what great mid-range wines this country can produce. We’ve a savoury Sauvignon and a plummy Merlot from the classy Elgin Vintners, now just €10.99 a bottle for the month.

Finally, our September case of the month throws together the best of this month’s specials with some of our most recent new finds. We’ve a half-Old/half-New World mixed case of 4 Australians, 2 South Africans, 3 Italians and 3 Spanish, including our delectable new Cava, all for only €129 delivered with a tasty €24.88 saving on normal retail prices.

Our Australian sale runs through to 31st October, all other specials end 30th September, or while stocks last.

* Within our extensive Australian range, we do have a handful of rare wines which are acquired on an allocation basis due to limited production or last of a certain vintage. Partial discounts apply due to the scarcity and demand for these wines, and all are indicated accordingly.

Case of the month: August

More From: Curious Wines
Posted August 11th, 2010 by Curious Wines | No Comments

This month’s Case of the Month is probably our most exciting yet: a showcase of some of our most exciting new finds from Spain, Italy and France, including new wallet-friendly classics from Chablis, Sancerre and Fleurie.

Normal price combined for these wines is €146.88, you can try them out as a summer mixed case during August for only €125, including as always delivery to your door!

The case in full:

From Spain
Castell de Remei Gotim Bru & Blanc Planell: two stunning, modern blends from one of the pioneers of Catalan winemaking for over a century.
Mont Marcal Penedes Tinto & Blanco: amazing value red and white from our new, family-owned Cava house, about 50km north-west of Barcelona.

From Italy
Poggiobello Merlot & Chardonnay: the Merlot was our secret wine in the second ever Twebt blind-tasting, the Chardonnay’s our surprise jewel in the crown of this Fruili producer’s whites.
Gregorina Sangiovese Superiore: soft red fruit, spice and mouthwatering acidity, this is Italy at it’s food-matching finest (Mike *loves* this wine!).
Borgo Magredo Prosecco Frizzante: new addition to our established Spumante, this is crisp classic lemon meringue Prosecco with a lighter fizz.

And our French classics
La Colombe Chablis: unoaked and full-flavoured, mineral characters give way to riper buttery notes before cutting back for a long crisp finish.
La Clochette Sancerre: dry, crisp and elegant Sauvignon, bursting with vibrant gooseberry, whilst retaining a silky texture.
La Reine de L’Arenite Fleurie: a terroir of pinky, crumbly sandstone from the La Madone vineyards, rated as one of the best vineyards in Fleurie.
Darriaud Réserve Côtes du Rhône Villages: classic Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre blend, with gentle tannins and a round chocolatey finish.

This superb value mix is available at the special price of €125 until 31st August only.

Summer Specials: 20% off Italy and our best deals EVER on New Zealand

More From: Curious Wines
Posted July 6th, 2010 by Curious Wines | 1 Comment

Celebrating both the opening our new wine warehouse in Cork, and the strange warm, sunny thing in the sky for the last couple of months, it’s to two of our favourite countries we go for a summer of quality quaffing. We’ve 20% off both Italy and New Zealand for the months of July and August, with some unbelievably extra juicy deals struck with three of our Kiwi wineries.

First to Italy, and the most diversified wine-producing country in the world. From crisp Trebbianos to fruity Pinot Grigios, light Montepulcianos to powerhouse Amarones, and with Prosecco, what is becoming everyone’s favourite bit of fizz, we want you to explore more this summer. We’re in the process of bulking up the range, with 12 new wines being added in the coming weeks, so whether it’s established favourites or new curiosities, there’s never been a better time to explore.

It’s no secret we’re crazy about New Zealand, and summer wouldn’t be summer without a classically-styled Sauvignon Blanc from the land of the long white cloud.

New Zealand, more starkly than most countries however, has suffered recently from over-production, producing uncharacteristically thin and unexciting wines. Well, quality’s fighting back!

In addition to our 20% across the board on all New Zealand wines, we’ve done our best deals ever on Savvi with three of our most quality-focused producers. Until 31st July only*, when you buy six Sauvignon Blanc from Greenhough, Waipara Springs or Muddy Water, in addition to our 20% off, you’ll get a seventh bottle absolutely free, compliments of the winery! That amounts to an insane 31% off the normal retail price of these three top drops.

And it gets even better. Buy any two bottles from these three producers, either as part of a mixed case online, or over the counter in our Cork warehouse, and you’ll get entered into the draw for a summer sizzling mixed case worth €225. And, buy any 12 bottles, we’ll double your odds.

These are some of the best quality, every-day drinking wines available in the Irish marketplace, at their best  value ever. As we only ship 2-3 times a year from New Zealand, however, and our next shipment is September, these deals are strictly while current stocks last, so don’t hang about if you want to grab those bargains.

Full range of Italian wine here.

Full range of New Zealand wine here.

Range of Sauvignon 7 for 6 offers here.

Promotions exclude allocation wines, wines supplied by producers or distributors on a limited allocation basis where demand exceeds available volume.

[* The original post on these promotions declared a six week buying period for the additional 7 for 6 offer. This has now been limited to the end of July, which was the intended promotional period for this extra special offer. The underlying 20% off New Zealand will remain until 31st August.
Apologies for the miscommunication. All offers remain valid only while stocks last.]

More From: Curious Wines
Posted June 1st, 2010 by Curious Wines | No Comments

After officially announcing yesterday our impending ‘Big Move‘ to the city, we now need your help!

With around 20,000 bottles in our Bandon wine warehouse, we want to minimise the amount being moved to Cork, so we’re offering our best deal ever, for a limited time only, to help you reduce our stock levels.

From today, until the day we close the doors in Bandon between now and the end of June, across our entire range, we’re offering the following discounts on our regular retail prices:

  • Spend €100, any mix, save 10%
  • Spend €200, save 15%
  • Spend €300, save 20%.

All prices on the website are normal retail selling prices, with the cost of your basket discounted at check-out depending on how much you’ve got in it.

This is a one-time deal, on existing stocks only, and the sale ends the minute we close the doors for the last time on our old warehouse. We apologise in advance as stock-outs will increase as we near the moving date, so please bear with us over the next few weeks.

As ever and always, we’ve free delivery on everything, nationwide.

So forget the booze cruise, leave the supermarket trolley for the bread and milk, and help us with the Big Move!

May Specials: 20% off South Africa + multi-buys on Farnese and the Languedoc

More From: Curious Wines
Posted May 4th, 2010 by Curious Wines | No Comments

With a welcome burst of sunshine, longer days and summer just around the corner, it’s a trio of outstanding value wine deals we bring you in May.

With only 37 days to go to the greatest sporting event on the planet, we turn our focus to South Africa this month, with 20% off all our wines from the 2010 World Cup hosts. We’ve a fifth off every bottle from the sun-soaked Cape, and with everything from friendly giraffes to private cellars, South Africa is the HOT ticket this summer.

Our second focus in May is more of a reward to our loyal customers than a plug to try something new. Three-time Italian Winery of the Year Farnese has been a top-seller for us since we opened, so we’ve stocked to the warehouse roof on this one: normally the lowest price in the country at €9.69, its now €7.99 when you buy two or more on the regular range, and €6.99 on the entry-level Ortonese.

Last but not least, we head to the south of France and the Languedoc. Funky and accessible labelling, easy to approach styles and outstanding value for money, its no wonder some people call it France’s New World. We’ve already got some of the best value wines out there, but for the month of May it’s 6 for 5: buy 5 of any Languedoc wine, we’ll give you a sixth absolutely free!

We’ve even extended the offer to our house wines Cuvee Jean-Paul (not quite the Languedoc but close enough, and we figured who’s going to argue!), bringing the average price to our lowest ever €6.24 per bottle, or €74.90 for a case of 12.

Finally, our May Case of the Month is our recommended picks from the month’s specials. We’ve four South African, four from Farnese and four from the Languedoc for €110 delivered, saving you €21 and giving you a Curious mix to grace any patio or dining table.

As ever, free, free, FREE delivery on everything, all offers run until 31st May or while stocks last.

April Specials: 20% off Bordeaux, Deals on Marlborough & Old Favourites

More From: Curious Wines
Posted April 1st, 2010 by Curious Wines | No Comments

April’s here, and we’ve another month of stupendously good deals from around the wine world.

It’s to the world’s greatest wine region we turn first, with a salivating 20% off Bordeaux. Forget the stuffy reputations and Chateaux La-de-da, we’ve some of the best that modern Bordeaux has to offer, from Gordon Ramsay’s house wine to classically styled Grand Crus. (Do not miss Chateau Bauduc if you want to see what this great region has to offer the modern consumer!)

Our Case of the Month is a Taste of Bordeaux, a delectable mix of classic Clarets, sumptuous whites and delicious desserts, all with a tasty €35 off the regular combined price.

From Old to New, Marlborough has been the global benchmark of Sauvignon Blanc for the last decade. We’ve a range of great buy 2 offers plus further incredible deals by the case, including established favourite The Ned from €10.33 per bottle and our stunning new find Fairhall Cliffs from only €8.33.

Finally, we like to keep the supermarkets on their toes, so the Roo is back for April. Grab a Yellow Tail for only €6.99 when you buy two or more, with the blockbuster Reserve range only €9.99. That’s case of 12 delivered from under €84!

Offers will run until 30th April or, as ever, while stocks last.

7 day Secret Parcel Sale

More From: Curious Wines
Posted March 8th, 2010 by Curious Wines | No Comments

MONDAY 8TH MARCH TO SUNDAY 14TH MARCH ONLY

We’re clearing out the warehouse for new wines and new vintages so we’re giving you chance to scoop some genuine bargains in our Secret Parcel Sale.

We’ve put together a limited number of secret cases, 12 different bottles with normal retail prices in excess of €159, for only €105 – that’s €8.75 a bottle, a guaranteed third off original selling prices, and free delivery!

The secret case sale will run for 7 days only or while these limited stocks last.

WHY THE BIG SECRET?

We are fundamentally opposed to the disingenuous marking up of wines to provide false discounts – all our wines are priced competitively and fairly to reflect the quality and price paid to the wine-maker. By clearing stock in this way we can protect these wines, and their makers, from being de-valued for future vintages.

Still not sure? No matter what the price or how good the bargain, our 100% satisfaction guarantee still applies at all times. If you are not completely satisfied with a wine, for any reason, we’ll give you a full refund, without quibble.

Here’s Mike to explain more.

A reason to smile this January

More From: Curious Wines
Posted January 4th, 2010 by Matt Kane | No Comments

It’s 2010 and we’re giving you a reason to be happy this winter with prices continuing to fall across the board.  There are well over one hundred price reductions from last year, and a couple of special offers thrown into the mix to help you hit the new year with a bang!

Long Neck (€6.99 each when you buy two or more)

All the way from South Africa’s Western Cape comes one of the most exciting range of wines to land on Irish soil in recent years. There are 7 to choose from, all representing fantastic value for money even before discount. If you want to go with South Africa’s specialities, don’t miss out on the Pinotage and the Chenin Blanc. An independent review of the Sauvignon Blanc can be found here.

Domaine Chateau d’Eau (€9.99, normally €12)

If you’re looking for a detox this January, then these fantastic Lunar Organic wines from Moillard are for you. Whether or not you’re convinced by the benefits of organically sourced grapes, there is nothing to take away from the quality found in these Languedoc wines, the pick of the bunch for me being the Syrah - a real fruit bomb!

Further price reductions for 2010

There are more handsome price reductions on well over one hundred wines. Included is our sensational Heartland range, starting at €10.99, and another chance to detox, this time with our organic Sierra Grande range, which is now retailing at €7.99.

Pre-mixed cases from €95

Our unbelievably popular pre-mixed cases have also seen a reduction from 2009, and as always, there’s free delivery nationwide.

More From: Curious Wines
Posted December 10th, 2009 by Curious Wines | 1 Comment

They may have hit just about everyone and everything with yesterday’s doomsday Budget but at least there was some good news for wine lovers as the government announced a 60 cent reduction in the rate of excise duty on a bottle of wine.

Not hanging around to celebrate, we’ve applied the duty reduction immediately to every bottle, gift pack and mixed case. That’s 60 cent off every bottle, regardless of previous discounts applied, and €7.20 off (our already great value) mixed cases, effective immediately!

As well as being better value than ever, remember too we’ve 24 hour free delivery until 21st December to ensure you’re well stocked up for Christmas.

Feeling festive now?
