Harvest time: October specials from Curious

More From: Curious Wines
Posted October 7th, 2011 by Matt Kane | No Comments

There’s a change in the air, harvest season is here! With 20% off New Zealand and South Africa ongoing until the end of October, we’ve added a few extra specials to keep your curiousity well fed, including a rejig on our Case of the Month. Yes indeed, September has been and gone!

We have an amazing value Spanish red and Spanish white from the gnarly old vines of Spain’s Calatayud region, with €2 off every bottle purchased. Condesa Garnacha is the perfect Autumn red, with bags of raspberry fruit and a silky, peppery finish. Condesa Blanco is a young, citrussy dry white made from the native Viura grape.

Backing up our two Spaniards, the infallible Farnese winery is also under the October spotlight. Again, save €2 per bottle on any of four wines – an almost Beaujolais-style Montepulciano, a Chianti-like Sangiovese, a soft-fruited Pinot Grigio, or a savoury Trebbiano. The choice is yours.

Our best value case offering is October’s Case of the Month at €109 for 12 bottles. That’s averaging little over €9 per bottle with over €24 in savings. It includes six whites and six reds from New Zealand, Italy, Spain, South Africa and California. If you prefer one or the other, we also have an all-white and all-red case.

Those sure seem like good apples to me :)

Haka time: September specials from Curious

More From: Curious Wines
Posted September 1st, 2011 by Curious Wines | No Comments

It’s goodbye to the summer that wasn’t and a big haka-style welcome to September and the forthcoming Rugby World Cup!

Just in time for kick-off, we’ve 20% off everything €25 and under from New Zealand, as well as fellow Tri-Nationers South Africa, until the end of October.

Sauvignon Blanc remains our biggest selling white by varietal but New Zealand has so much more to offer. Try a Pinot Grigio (or Gris), Riesling or Chardonnay and prepare to be blown away. We reckon the Pinot Noir’s as good as it gets too.

From South Africa, we’ve two great everyday drinking ranges from Long Neck and Paarl Heights. For the best from each, try the grapes that South Africa is renowned for: the Chenin Blanc from Paarl Heights and the Pinotage from Long Neck.

From France, we’ve new Bordeaux that doesn’t need 20 years or a small mortgage to enjoy and two great value for money whites. Check out September’s French specials here.

And from Italy, a chance to try more new additions to our growing range of alternative varietals. We’ve a new Lison Classico Friulano and a new Montepulciano, both with €2 off to help you explore. September’s Italian specials here.

Finally, we’ve our mixed case of the month featuring the best of all of the above: 6 wines from New Zealand, 3 from France and 3 from Italy, with over €30 off the normal combined price.

Enough to keep you in good spirit as we cheer on the boys in green?

New Zealand and South Africa specials run until 31st October, French and Italian specials until 30th September. All special offers applicable while stocks last.

Summer sizzlers: August specials from Curious

More From: Curious Wines
Posted August 2nd, 2011 by Curious Wines | No Comments

Well we thought since the paving stones are hardly sizzling with the Irish summer, we’d make our prices sizzle instead. August’s here and we’ve a line-up of specials sure to hit the spot no matter what the weather.

In addition to 20% off Australia which continues until the end of the month, we’ve 20% off Cava, 20% off Sancerre and six summer sizzlers that collectively make up our lowest priced mixed case yet.

Fresh from a clean sweep of medals at this year’s International Wine & Spirit Competition – silver medals for both the Brut Reserva and the 90-Parker Brut Extremarium, and a Best in Class award for the Brut Rosado (Rosé) – we’ve 20% off the exquisite range of Cava from Mont Marçal.

From France’s Loire Valley and the true home of Sauvignon Blanc, one of the world’s great white wine appellations: Sancerre. We’ve three for you to try, starting from €11.99 with the 20% off.

And, believing in the power of positive thinking, we’ve picked six wines that will be perfect for the barbecue when the imminent heatwave arrives – all for only €6.99 per bottle or €79 as a mixed case of 12 (that’s only €6.58 a bottle and our lowest price ever on a mixed case!).

We’ve even done a half-case if you want change from a ’50′. All six summer sizzlers for only €45 delivered.

All special offers run until 31st August and while stocks last.

Summer fun: July specials from Curious

More From: Curious Wines
Posted July 1st, 2011 by Curious Wines | No Comments

“When is your next Australian wine sale?” is one of the most frequent questions we get asked. So we’ve gone right to the cellar door and asked our wine producing friends what they can do to help us out this summer.

Direct from Australia to your wine cellar we’ve got 20% off all Australian wines under €25. Of the highlights, a fine selection of wines from one of the hottest winemaking duos in the country, Scott Collett and Ben Glaetzer at Woodstock. Flying the flag in Barossa Valley, Langmeil has been placed amongst the very top echelon of Australian Wineries, and from Langhorne Creek, the most recent addition to our star-studded line-up of Australian wineries, Bleasdale. There’s a story in every glass.

You can always find an excuse to celebrate. For the month of July only, we have 20% off Champagne. Duval Leroy is one of the last remaining family-owned Champagne houses, and considered by the French themselves as one of the finest around. The House’s reputation is greatly furthered by the 150 Michelin-rated restaurants that share the same passion for uncompromising quality.

Summer wouldn’t be summer without New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. Think cold water, green grass and blue skies. Save €2 per bottle on Brent Marris’ incredibly popular Ned Sauvignon Blanc (“New Zealand’s best Sauvignon Blanc” – Cuisine Magazine) and Fairhall Cliffs Sauvignon Blanc until the end of July.

These new hot-rods from Borgo Magredo landed with us last week. As an introductory offer, pay just €9.99 per bottle until the end of July (normal price €11.99). Original and extremely charming, these wines bridge the gap between classic traditions and the modern trend-setting. They also make for some darn good drinking!

In addition, two pairs of wines from dynamic French winemaker Eric Monnin, Dignite Syrah & Viognier down from €12.99 to €9.99 per bottle, and our ever-reliable house wines, Cuvee Jean Paul Sec & Rouge down from €7.99 to €6.79 per bottle. So, looks like we’re in for a good summer. Cheers!

20% off Australia until the end of August, all other special offers until 31st July, everything while stocks last.

Taste of Summer: June specials from Curious

More From: Curious Wines
Posted June 1st, 2011 by Curious Wines | No Comments

The sun is out, the barbeques are dusted down and we’ve FIVE sizzling deals to give you a tantalising taste of summer for the month of June!

NEW 2010 CHATEAU BAUDUC – €3 OFF

First up and just in, it’s the new 2010 vintage of Gordon Ramsay’s house white for the last decade, Château Bauduc Bordeaux Blanc.

After a difficult 2009 vintage ravaged by golf-ball-sized hailstones, 2010 was a belter with winemaker Gavin Quinney reverting to the winning 100% Sauvignon Blanc formula that also wowed Rick Stein and Oz Clarke. ‘Exactly the kind of white you want in the fridge when you get home’, said Oz of the new vintage in March.

We’ve bought up as much as we can of the new vintage so to get the ball rolling we’ve taken €3 off for the month of June, to only €10.99 a bottle. And we’ve done the same with the partnering Clos de Quinze 2008, the silky Merlot-Cabernet blend that’s just perfect for those big meats on the barbeque, down to €11.99 for the month.

20% OFF PROSECCO

Over to Italy next and what’s a taste of summer without a taste of bubbly?

We’ve 20% off Italy’s most popular fizz for the month of June. So, you can enjoy the spritzy Borgo Magredo Frizzante for only €9.59, or the splendid Spumante for only €13.59.

SAVE €3 ON THE WINES OF FRIULI

Next, a region renowned for producing some of Italy’s best whites and a winery gaining a following from everyone that tastes their sublime wines. From Friuli in the north-east of the country, we’ve four classy whites and two foodie reds from Poggiobello Estate, down to only €10.99 a bottle.

GET THE FURIOUS KNIVES BEFORE THEY GET YOU

To the other side of the world now, we’ve two hidden gems from the Furious Knives of Wine (a.k.a. Some Young Punks).

Battle Island red is a macabre Shiraz-Cabernet blend oozing murderously dark berry fruit with a silky, savoury finish. The white‘s a collision of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling that should play out like a horror movie but ends up more like the Graham Norton Show – a bit mad but hellishly good fun.

We’ve €3 off both for the month (you *so* have to try them).

WANDER DOWN MURRAY’S ROAD

And finally, summer wouldn’t be summer without a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

Bursting with peaches, passion fruit and citrus, we’ve the serious-taste-of-more Murray’s Road from Marlborough for only €9.99, another saving of €3 a bottle. You want!

OH, AND DID WE MENTION CHILE?

All specials offers, including the continuation of our headline 20% off Chile promotion, end on 30th June or before if we run out of stock. So, unlike you do every year with the charcoal, try not to leave it to the last minute.

More From: Curious Wines
Posted May 10th, 2011 by Curious Wines | No Comments

We’re back at last with our third Secret Parcel Sale: ‘Les Trois’. Same bad French grammar, same ridiculously good deal.

This time, our secret parcel is made up of 12 ‘hot tickets’: 12 new wines that will knock the pants off their supermarket equivalents and (hopefully) have you coming back for a taste of more.

Some are brand new additions to the Curious line-up, some are exciting new vintages of established favourites. What you’re guaranteed is the best value you’re ever likely to see for these wines – so good, we can’t announce publicly what’s in the box. All wines, as ever, are backed by our 100% guarantee – great value or your money back.

Each case contains 12 bottles, 6 reds, 6 whites, with a combined regular retail price of €148.88. For 48 hours only, we’re hitting the floor on these wines: €105 including delivery. That’s over €40 off and only €8.75 per bottle, with some of the wines normally retailing at €15!

We have only 100 cases available at this knock-down price and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Sale ends 1pm Thursday 12th May or when all cases are sold out, whichever happens first.

It’s 1pm Tuesday, and it’s go, go, go!

Andean Allure & Languedoc Legends: May specials from Curious

More From: Curious Wines
Posted May 1st, 2011 by Curious Wines | 2 Comments

We’ve some May madness in store for you with delicious deals done on some of our biggest selling wines!

First up, Chile, with 20% off every wine in May and June.

Since we began in 2008, our barometer for success has been the response of our customers and no winery has received more positive feedback than Santa Alicia. We’ve a container of new vintages, and a few new lines, just landed, so whether you’re already a fan or just destined to become one, there’s no better time to get stuck in.

We’ve the Santa Gloria range from €6.39, Santa Alicia from €7.99 and the highly accomplished Tabalí from €9.59.

Just before Christmas we introduced the Gassac range from Mas de Daumas Gassac in the Languedoc. With their Grand Cru described as a ‘Lafite in the Languedoc’ by French authority Gault Millau and ‘one of the 10 best wines in the world’ by Michael Broadbent, we thought we might be onto something special.

An instant hit with customers, the new vintages are in and we’ve negotiated some extra special prices to celebrate. We’ve the sensational Moulin de Gassac Classic range at €7.49 (€2 off), the soft and succulent Guilhem at €7.99 (€2 off), ‘Les Grand Terroirs’ Faune and Albaran at €9.99 (€2 off), and the exquisite Pont de Gassacs (previously Reserve de Gassac) at only €12.49 (€3 off). You do not want to miss these prices!

Finally for May, we’ve two hugely popular Italians for you from the northern region of Piemonte. Savoury, smoky Barbera Monferrato and crisp, elegant Gavi di Gavi from the 50 hectare Bricco dei Guazzi estate – this is Piemonte with passion and we’ve €3 off each of them for the month of May.

The Easter Bunny’s feverishly wrapping the last eggs for delivery in three weeks’ time, and we’re on hand for the best in Easter wine deals.

Our Spanish fiesta continues for another month, so we’re complimenting those rich, silky reds from Rioja and beyond with a beleaguered hero of white wines. For the month of April, we’re inviting you to Rediscover Chardonnay.

From cool climate Burgundy and New Zealand, to the rich, tropical fruit styles of South Australia and Chile, we’ve something for every palate. You’ve just got to dip in and try.

As ever, we’ve a tasty incentive: 20% off all Chardonnay for the month of April. Was there ever a better time to do some discovering?

All the month’s specials below.
